Dr. Seungpyo Hong

Biography

Dr. Seungpyo Hong is Professor of Pharmaceutics in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Division, School of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison). He also serves as Associate Editor for Nanomedicine: Nanotechnology, Biology and Medicine of Elsevier. He graduated from Hanyang University in Seoul, Korea with BS and MS degrees in polymer engineering in 1999 and 2001, respectively. After working as a researcher at Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), he started his PhD study at the University of Michigan working with his advisors Profs. Mark Banaszak Holl and James Baker, Jr. Dr. Hong graduated with his PhD in Macromolecular Science and Engineering in 2006 and joined Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a postdoctoral associate in the laboratory of Prof. Robert Langer. From 2008 to 2014, Seungpyo was Assistant Professor in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) where he was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2014, and subsequently joined the UW-Madison faculty as full Professor in 2016. Since 2008, he has led a research group under the major research theme of “Biomimetic Nanotechnology” for cancer diagnosis and treatment. To date, Prof. Hong’s research has culminated in over 70 peer-reviewed articles that have a combined total number of citations over 10,000 times with an h-index of 32, 7 book chapters, and 15 issued or pending patents, while delivering over 110 invited talks worldwide and over 150 conference proceedings. His academic/research achievements have been recognized by the related scientific communities, resulting in him receiving a number of awards including 2012 AAPS New Investigator Award in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technologies and 2012 UIC Researcher of the Year - Rising Star Award.

Dr.Alexander Seifalian

Biography

Dr.Alexander Seifalian, Professor of Nanotechnology and Regenerative Medicine worked at the Royal Free Hospital and University College London for over 26 years, during this time he spent a year at Harvard Medical School looking at caused of cardiovascular diseases and a year at Johns Hopkins Medical School looking at treatment of liver. He published more than 647 peer-reviewed research papers, and registered 14 UK and International patents. He is currently CEO of NanoRegMed Ltd, working on the commercialisation of his research. During his career Prof Seifalian has led and managed many large projects with successful outcomes in terms of commercialisation and translation to patients. In 2007 he was awarded the top prize in the field for the development of nanomaterials and technologies for cardiovascular implants by Medical Future Innovation, and in 2009 he received a Business Innovation Award from UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). He was the European Life Science Awards’ Winner of Most Innovative New Product 2012 for the “synthetic trachea”. Prof Seifalian won the Nanosmat Prize in 2013 and in 2016 he received the Distinguish Research Award in recognition of his outstanding work in regenerative medicine from Heals Healthy Life Extension Society. His achievements include development of the world first synthetic trachealacrimal drainage conduit, and vascular bypass graft using nanocomposite materials, bioactive molecules and stem cell technology. He has over 15,000 media report from his achievement,include BBC, ITV, WSJ, CNN, and many more.Currently he is working on development and commercialisation of human organs using graphene based nanocomposite materials and stem cells technology.

Dr.Chenxu Yu

Biography

Chenxu Yu is an associate professor at department of agricultural and biosystems engineering at Iowa State University. Since joined ISU in 2007, his research has been focused on biosensors utilizing nanomaterials for pathogen detection and disease diagnosis; spectroscopic imaging for characterization of biological systems, and bionanotechnology for biomedical applications including development of nano-vaccines. He has published 63 articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr.Valerio Voliani

Biography

Valerio Voliani is a researcher at Center for Nanotechnology Innovation, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia. He has obtained the MSc in Chemistry and the PhD in Molecular Biophysics from Scuola Normale Superiore (Pisa, Italy). His efforts are devoted in filling the gap between inorganic nanomaterials and clinical applications by addressing the issue of metal persistence after the designed action. By applying the “ultrasmall-in-nano approach”, he has recently developed the “passion fruit-like nanoarchitectures”: an all-in-one inorganic nanomaterial able to jointly combine most of the intriguing behaviors of metal nanoparticles with their excretion from organism. His work is supported by an individual grant from Associazione Italiana per la Ricerca sul Cancro (AIRC). He is also actively engaged in scientific disseminations in High Schools and to community.

Dr.Željka Vanic (maiden name Pavelic) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutical TechnologyFaculty of Pharmacy and BiochemistryUniversity of Zagreb (Croatia). Biography

Dr.Fulvio Ratto (born 1978) received his PhD in materials science from University of Quebec (Canada) in 2007. After working as post doc or visiting fellow at Yokohama City University (Japan), University of New South Wales (Australia) and University of Lubeck (Germany), he was appointed junior researcher at Inst. Applied Physics of Nat’l Research Council Italy in Nov 2011. His current interests lie at the crossroads between biomedical optics and advanced materials and, in particular, in the applications of plasmonics and hybrids in photothermicsphotoacoustics and (bio)sensing, such as the integration of noble-metal particles into bionic or complex devices. As of Dec 2018, he was author of two patents and about 60 papers in ISI journals with an H index of 20.

Dr. Mohamed Abbas Ibrahim is a professor of Pharmaceutics, Kayyali Chair for Pharmaceutical Industries, Department of Pharmaceutics, King Saud University, KSA. He gained a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Regensburg, Germany, in collaboration with Al-Azhar University, Cairo Egypt. Andrea Danani received the Dipl-Ing degree in Physics from ETH in Zuerich in 1987. After the Ph.D. degree at SISSA/ISAS in Trieste in 1992, he worked as postdoc for many years at several Physics Departments (Politecnico di Torino, Università Statale of Milano and Università di Genova) and as scientific collaborator by the Swiss National Supercomputing Center (CSCS). His scientific activity was first centered on the modelization of many-electron systems and their phase transitions and the description of surface diffusion of adatoms in metals using analytical models and several numerical simulation methods. Mr. Muhammad Haji Mansor received his Master of Pharmacy from the University of Nottingham in 2016. He is currently in the final year of his PhD thesis, working within the framework of the Erasmus Mundus NanoFar doctoral training program focusing on nanomedicine and pharmaceutical innovations. Benefiting from the supervision of Prof Frank Boury, an established researcher in nanomedicine based at the Université d'Angers (France), and Prof Christine Jérôme, a leading polymer chemist based at the Université de Liège (Belgium), Muhammad developed a non-toxic formulation process to encapsulate protein therapeutics for the treatment of glioblastoma. His research work is highly acknowledged by the scientific community, as demonstrated by the multiple awards he received at local and international conferences. He is also well equipped with industry insights, having recently completed an internship at Novartis Austria that focused on development of stable protein formulations

Sony Chandi Shrestha is a doctoral researcher from London Metropolitan University (UK)  and the National Physical Laboratory (UK). Her research is on formulation and characterisation of nanoparticles as drug carriers for the management of cardiovascular diseases. She is also conducting a survey to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of pharmacovigilance and knowledge of phytostanols among healthcare providers in Nepal. Miss Wedam Alghazzawi

Biography

Wedam Alghazzawi is a PhD student and a lecturer at the Department of Biochemistry in King Abdulaziz University. She still working on the fabrication and characterization of nonenzymatic glucose sensor using graphene/metal oxide nanocomposites for her PhD research. In 2018, she completed the postgraduate program in nanotechnology at the University of Oxford. She gained knowledge and extensive experience in the nanotechnology area which has helped her to pursue in this field rapidly. She has a strong desire to learn and expand her knowledge about nanotechnology to become a successful researcher.

Dr.Bogdan Parakhonskiy

Biography

Bogdan Parakhonskiy obtained his PhD from Moscow State University, Department of Physics, in 2009. From 2010 until 2014 he held a Marie Curie Postdoc fellowship at the University of Trento, Italy. After this, he has had 4 years’ experience as group leader in the theranostic laboratory in Saratov State University, Saratov, Russia. Since 2015 he has been a holder of a prestigious FWO fellowship at Ghent University, Belgium. He is a pioneer in the development of different types of containers such as calcium carbonate particles in the vaterite phasehydrogel matrices, and hydrogel capsules.

Miss Caterina Bartomeu Garcia

Biography

Caterina Bartomeu Garcia has been studying the use of liposomes as a drug delivery system for the past two years. Motivated by the emergence of drug-resistant bacterial infections and the difficulties that current drugs face in order to be delivered to the brain, she decided to focus her PhD on the use of drug carriers to improve the penetration of drugs through the blood-brain barrier. By encapsulating the drugs, she obtained drug delivery systems able to overcome bacterial antibiotic resistance. She has presented her work in multiple conferences and was awarded a Best Student Poster. She is collaborating in other projects focused on the use of nanotechnology to kill bacteria and to avoid bacterial adhesion to surgical instruments. Apart from her research, she is also a teaching assistant for the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Biography

Deni Rahmat is a lecturer at Faculty of Pharmacy, Pancasila University, Indonesia. He is interested in synthesis of nanoparticles based on novel cationic thiomers using reaction of oxidation and reductive amination. Currently, he is dealing with hydroxyprophyl cellulose-cysteamine and inulin-cysteamine conjugate based nanoparticles containing bromelain and curcumin. He has been a chairman of International Conference on Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology/Nanomedicine Indonesia.
