Dr. Claudio Domenici

CNR Institute of Clinical Physiology, Pisa Italy
Title: TBA

Dr. Claudio Domenici received the Laurea degree in physics from the University of Pisa, the D.E.A. degree in “Optical Instrumentation” from the University of Grenoble and the PhD in “Materials Engineering” from the Politecnico of Milan. Since the 80s he has been involved in the research activities in the field of bioengineering carried out at Centro “E. Piaggio”, University of Pisa, and at the Institute of Clinical Physiology of the Italian National Research Council, where from 2001 he has been Research Director in the area “Technological and basic science for medicine”. In this field he is and has been scientific responsible of National and European research and industrial projects. He is currently involved in the national flagship project NANOMAX, addressed to nanotechnology for the development of new systems of diagnosis and therapy on the organs or directly on the patients and, in particular, he is coordinator of the project ENCODER (Engineered Nanostructures for Cellular imaging and for intracellular delivery of Optically active Drugs for cardiac hypERtrophy), which aim is to realize functionalized nanomaterials able to target molecular biomarkers of disease and, by selective drug delivery and multimodal detection, integrate imaging and therapeutic functions in a single platform (intracellular theranostics).

Research Interest

His scientific interest, devoted for many years to sensing in biomedical engineering, to gene specific biosensors and nanosensors, and on dynamic cell culture systems for tissue engineering, is currently focused on nanomedicine, considering the development of different complex nanostructures for therapy/sensing applications as well as for multimodal diagnosis and imaging.
