Dr. Emily Busch, PGY3
is an aspiring surgeon scientist in the field of colon and rectal surgery. She
graduated from Temple University School of Medicine and completed her first
three years of surgical residency at SUNY Downstate.
She elected to spend
her research years as a postdoctoral research fellow at Columbia University.
Emily’s primary research interest is colorectal cancer, particularly the recent
increase in incidence of rectal cancer in young patients. To this end, she has
developed a collaborate translational project between the department of
pathology and the department of colorectal surgery to investigate the cause of
this emerging disease as well as to develop representative and reproducible
models for further in-vivo research.
Additionally, she is
engaged in health outcomes research in colon and rectal surgery. Her work has
been selected for funding through the American Society of Colon and Rectal
Surgeons Resident Research Initiation Grant and an NIH funded training
fellowship in precision medicine.
