Title: SIRT1 activation can regulate the mitochondrial biogenesis in diabetic rat heart through SIRT1-SIRT3 axis

My focus is to investigate the molecular and genetic mechanisms of cardiovascular disorders and diabetes. My laboratory is working to find the functional role of novel genes in heart. We are also elucidating the role of human gene mutation in cardiac function and identifying genetic, biochemical, cellular and biophysical pathways that lead from mutation to disease by using a transgenic mouse model. My laboratory has a long-standing interest to study innate immunity of heart and to find therapeutic strategies to reduce cardiac injury. Overall goal is to bridge the gap between observations in the basic research laboratory and the clinical bedside. My studies will be an integral part in ‘‘translating’’ new discoveries into therapeutic initiatives.
